I am supporting Refuge because of the incredible work they are doing to end violence and abuse against women in all forms, whether it’s domestic abuse, sexual violence, human trafficking and even female genital mutilation. As a woman and also as a mother of girls, I am dedicated to trying to make the world better and safer for them, for myself and for other women everywhere. I also believe that if it's possible and safe to do so, using our voices to highlight these issues is so important and I know that many people can’t so I try as much as I can to be a voice for those who need it.

What does Refuge do

Refuge is the UK’s leading domestic abuse charity of violence against women and girls. On any given day Refuge supports more than 6,000 clients, helping them rebuild their lives and overcome many different forms of violence and abuse. For example, domestic violence, sexual violence, so-called ‘honour’-based violence, human trafficking and modern slavery, and female genital mutilation.

Providing support through services

Refuge’s specialist services include refuges, independent advocacy, community outreach projects, culturally specific services and the 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline (0808 2000 247). The helpline is open 24 hours a day and every day of the year. Refuge also runs a live chat Monday Friday 3pm – 10pm for victims.

End Tech Abuse

Domestic violence takes lives and ruins lives, affecting one woman in four at some point in her life in England and Wales alone, and killing two women every week. Modern technology gives perpetrators ever-growing ways to stalk, isolate and control women using the tools of everyday life. Across Refuge’s services, perpetrators – partners and ex-partners – are increasingly using technology to facilitate their abuse of the women we support. Abusers can and have gained access to women’s personal and home devices, their online accounts and even children’s toys and devices.

Raising awareness of the cause

Refuge’s award-winning campaigns aim to raise awareness of domestic violence and prevent it from happening. Refuge ensures the needs of those experiencing a wide range of abuse are represented at the highest possible level.

Affecting change

Refuge aims to create a world where violence against women and children is no longer tolerated. Refuge works to change public attitudes to domestic violence through education and awareness- raising campaigns and protect women by advocating for a strong criminal justice response that holds perpetrators to account. Refuge also supports bereaved families who have lost loved ones to this horrendous crime.
